Employees of Joliet Public Library may work at either, or both, library locations and our positions require a variety of hours including days, evenings, and weekends. Applicants for all positions must complete an application.

Application forms are also available at both the Main Library and the Black Road Branch; completed applications may be turned in at either location. We always accept completed applications and keep them on file for two years for future openings.  Applications are not reviewed unless we have a current job opening.

Librarian Cataloger

Joliet Public Library is a large public library that serves a diverse population of over 147,000 people.  We are looking for a self-motivated, outgoing, and innovative professional with a Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university to serve as Librarian Cataloger.  This is a full-time position that will report to the Technical Services Manager at our Main Library at 150 N. Ottawa, Joliet.

 Responsibilities include:   The Librarian Cataloger performs original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats, and authority work in accordance with local and national standards, and contributes to a shared POLARIS database and OCLC.  They also assign classification and call numbers to library materials.

Job Specifications:  Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university, a minimum of two years’ experience in cataloging, considerable knowledge of technical services data standards and description rules, and good verbal, writing and computer skills.  Experience in Polaris preferred. 

Compensation: $38,727.  We offer excellent benefits--12 sick days per year, 5 weeks of vacation, and 10 holidays per year.  IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) is included as well as medical, dental and vision insurance.
