Chimney Caps are On

Our chimney caps have arrived and have been installed.  They look fantastic.  Scaffolding around the tower will be taken down over the next couple of days and the roof in that area will be shingled.  We are nearing the completion of this project.

Our Beautiful Dome

What a beautiful day to see our dome come together.  A little "before" and "now."

Continuing Progress

Construction slowed down for a few days due to the weather conditions.  However, we continue to make great progress.  This week, the roofers should complete the roof on the south east side of the building and the flat roof around the dome.  This will conclude the majority of the roof with the exception of finishing work and around the tower at the Ottawa Street entrance. The sheet metal work will begin next week on the dome.  Then the scaffolding will be removed to finish the shingle work around the tower.  Lining of the gutters is on going.  Our roof project is over 50% complete.

Demo

Today the roofers have been demoing the north east roof section.  The alley continues to be closed on the north end.  Tomorrow, they will begin the demo of the south east roof section.  The alley continues to be closed.  Thank you to all who have had to make accomodations for deliveries, etc.  We appreciate your patience.

Onward and Upward

The roofers are continuing their work on the low slope roof and should be done shingling that section of the roof today.  The sheet metal workers are working on the valleys and continuing to line the gutters.  Work is ongoing on the dome and masonry around the roof edge.  The weather continues to cooperate and the heat has moved on at least for now.  The east end of the alley continues to be blocked.  Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Loading Up the Roof

Today the roofers are loading up the roof after an exhausting day on Friday.  Wow!  These guys have been working hard in the unrelenting heat and are back at it again today.  They are loading up the roof and lining the gutters.  The east end of the alley is blocked for equipment staging.  Only one more day of heat until we can get back to more comfortable temperatures.

Changing Things Up

For the most part, the Clinton side roof is completed.  The sidewalk is open again.  Work has now shifted to the low slope roof to the north of the building.  As a result, the alley will be blocked during business hours until that section of the roof is completed.  Additional scaffolding is going up around one of our chimneys for the replacement of the chimney cap.  The weather has been our friend so we are making great progress and are on schedule.

In Full Swing

The construction project is in full swing.  Part of the roof on the northwest side has been shingled, some gutters have been relined, work is beginning on the dome and masonry repair around the roof area is on going.  The roof demo continues to the east and is now on the south roof by Clinton Street.  The sidewalk and street parking area adjacent to the Library on Clinton are roped off for equipment staging and safety precautions.  The weather is cooperating so we are making great progress.  Thank you for your continued patience.

A Flurry of Activity

Today the roofers are tearing off the southwest side roof.  The gutters on the northwest side are being re-lined.  The scaffolding company has completed their work.  Both the Ottawa Street entrance and west end of the alley are roped off.  Since there will be no construction on Saturday, we will open the Ottawa Street doors.  We are very excited to be replacing our aging roof.  Thank you again for your understanding and patience.

The weather is our friend again today and our roof project is moving forward.  Scaffolding has been erected at the Ottawa Street entrance, southeast and northeast sides of the building as well as the alley.  The old shingles have been completely removed from the northwest roof.

Bright and Early

The roofers began the demolition of the roof on the northwest corner of the building at 6:00 a.m.  The scaffolding continues to go up at the Ottawa Street entrance.  You will also notice scaffolding being erected on the southeast corner of the building but it will not affect the foot traffic pattern.  Please continue to use the Chicago Street entrance until further notice.  And, again, the west end of the alley will remain closed.

Up on the Rooftop

The construction was not able to begin yesterday due to the threat of rain but today we are on...  The staging on the roof has begun and they will determine later this morning if they can start tearing off shingles.  The west end of the alley has been blocked.  Please use the Chicago Street entrance to the alley to access the bank.  Thank you.

Demo Starts Monday August 28th

Weather permitting, the demolition of the roof will begin on Monday, August 28th. The first section of the roof to be replaced will be on the northwest side of the building. As a result, the west end of the alley will be closed to thru traffic. Also, for our safety, the Ottawa Street entrance will remain closed to foot traffic during this period. This section of the roof is expected to take 2 to 3 days. Thank you for using the Chicago Street entrance when visiting the Library.  The scaffolding continues to go up and up....
