  • Get a library card?
    Any resident of the city of Joliet may apply for a library card at the Circulation desk at either library location. Applicants must present a current government issued photo ID that verifies their name and current address. Additional proof of residency is required if the current address is not on the ID.   • Access/check my account?
    You can access your account from our homepage by clicking on 'My Account' or use this link. You will need to enter your library card number and PIN (the last four digits of your account number). After logging into your account you can renew your items, check for due dates, place holds, etc.
     
  • Borrow materials from the library?
    Materials must be checked out at the Circulation desk. With the exception of popular DVDs and videocassettes most items have a three-week check out period and may be renewed twice unless there is a hold on the item or your account is not in good standing.  Popular DVDs and videocassettes check out for 7 days and can be renewed once. Overdue fines are 25¢ per day for books,magazines, music CDs, and audiobooks. Overdue fines for DVDs and videocassettes are $1 per day.

  • Pay Fees Online?
    Simply visit My Account and click Fines and Fees located at the bottom of the page. You will need to log in using your library card number and PIN; then you can follow the simple instructions to pay via credit card. Payment is made through the secure Illinois State Treasurer's Office and all major credit cards are accepted. Click here to log into your account and see your current balance due. 
     
  • Borrow materials from other libraries?
    If you cannot locate what you are looking for at either of our locations you may place a hold on the item to have it sent from another library. If you do not find the item listed in our catalog we will try to locate it at a library from outside our system. Click here to learn more about interlibrary loan.  
     
  • Renew library materials?
    You can renew materials either in person, online, or by phone. To renew online access your account from our homepage by clicking on 'My Account' or use this link. To renew by phone please call our 24-hour renewal number 1-815-740-0978. You will need to have your library card number available. Items that cannot be renewed: Items that have holds, and items that are over the renewal limit.
     
  • Place a hold on materials?
    You may place a hold on an item in our catalog by clicking on this link and logging into your account. You may also use any of our catalog computers if you are in the library. If you need assistance with placing holds please ask a staff member.
     
  • Sign up to have library notices as text messages on my cell phone?
    Receive updates on items on hold for you that are ready to be picked up, overdue notices, and courtesy notices for items that will be due soon by signing up for our free service. You can register your cell number by clicking on "My Account" on our homepage or using this link. You will need to log in to your account with your library card or user name and PIN number. After logging in, click on "Contact Information and Preferences." Scroll to the section called "Preferences" and fill in the correct information. When finished, click on the "Submit Change Request" button to activate your changes.
     
  • Sign up to have library notices sent to my email address?
    You can register your email address by clicking on "My Account" on our homepage or using this linkYou will need to log in to your account with your library card or user name and PIN number. After logging in, click on "Contact Information and Preferences." Scroll to the section called "Preferences" and fill in the correct information. When finished, click on the "Submit Change Request" button to activate your changes.

  • Download a digital magazine?  
    JPL patrons now have unlimited multi-user access to complete digital magazines, easily viewed on most Internet-enabled devices through the Joliet Public Library website. Click here for instructions and to view available titles. Click here to get started!  

  • Use technology at the library?
    Computers are available for use by patrons of all ages at both library locations. Free Wireless Internet is available for use with Wi-Fi devices and laptops. Wireless printing is available via our website. You can print from your laptop while at the library or from your laptop or desktop PC from home. Our Digital Media Studio at the Ottawa Street Branch is available for individuals and bussinesses by appointment. Click here for more information on technology at the library.
     
  • Use wireless printing?
    You may send print jobs via our website to either library location. Click on the 'Wireless Printing' banner on our homepage (or click here) and follow the instructions. Print jobs may be sent from your laptop from inside the library or from any desktop PC with an Internet connection. Print jobs will stay in our print queues for 4 hours. Print jobs sent to the Main Library are paid for and picked up in the Internet Computer Center on the Lower Level. Print jobs sent to the Black Road Branch are paid for and picked up in the Adult Computer Center. Cost is 10¢ per page for B/W prints and $.50 per page for color prints. Please pick up your print job(s) no later than 30 minutes before closing time.
  • Find/register for a program or event?

    The Friends of the Joliet Public Library is a non-profit organization made up of people who support the library by raising funds to help sponsor programs and provide library materials.   • Donate to the library/Friends of the Joliet Public Library?
    Donations may be dropped off at either of our locations. If you have a large quantity we recommend calling ahead and arranging for a staff member to assist you with dropping off at the loading dock. All donations become the property of Joliet Public Library. We apply the same criteria when considering adding these donations to the collection as we do for items that we purchase for the collection. There is a cost involved in processing each donation that is added to the collection, as well as space limitations. Donations that are not added to the collection will be put in one of the Friends of the Joliet Public Library book sales if they are determined to be items that are likely to to sell.
