Researchers say the average job search in 2026 can take more than six months. But you don’t have to navigate that journey alone. Beyond providing a quiet place to work, the Joliet Public Library offers free tools, technology and expert resources to help you search with confidence.

“Looking for a job can feel overwhelming, especially if you aren’t sure where to start,” said Stephanie Saldana, Assistant Manager of Adult Services. “Whether you’re building a resume, preparing for interviews, exploring a new career or just looking for a quiet place to focus, the library has free resources to help.”

Get resume help and interview practice

  • The library offers Brainfuse JobNow, which can connect you with a live job coach for a professional resume review, assistance searching for jobs and practice interviewing. It also offers resume templates, career assessments and assistance filling out unemployment benefits forms.

Explore new career paths

  • You can also access the Occupational Outlook Handbook through the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which can help you decide on a line of work worth pursuing. It lists the highest paying, fastest growing fields and the fields with the most projected new jobs.

Support for entrepreneurs

If your next career move means starting your own business, the library can help with that, too.

  • The library offers online access to the Small Business Reference Center, which can help you create a business plan and learn how to start and run your own business.
  • Community partner Joliet Latino Economic Development Association (LEDA) supports Latino businesses and individuals looking to start a business with individual business counseling, networking opportunities and help finding financing.

Technology to support your search

Job seekers have free access to the internet and desktop computers to work on their resume and apply for jobs. You can also print, scan or fax documents at the library.

The Digital Media Studio (DMS) offers Joliet Public Library cardholders access to professional-grade technology for graphic design, website development, photography and more. Create business cards, update your portfolio, build a website or even take a professional headshot.

Strengthen your skills

If you’re looking to develop your English speaking skills, the library offers free, weekly English Language Learner classes at both library branches with separate classes for beginners and intermediate/advanced, as well as an English conversation group. Register online.

Networking

Finding the right job often comes down to making the right connections. The library can help you connect with organizations that specialize in workforce development and career training.

  • Workforce Services of Will County offers career coaching, resume review and scholarships for career training.
  • The state of Illinois offers layoff assistance, help finding job fairs, job search prep and help building your resume.
