The Joliet Public Library will be hosting a Giving Tree and collecting donations for the Will County Humane Society from November 25 until December 31.
Donated items range from dog and cat food, to cleaning supplies, treats and blankets. All of the items requested benefit the adoptable animals at the Humane Society, Will County’s older “no-kill” animal shelter.
The Humane Society has been serving the area for over 40 years with the purpose to provide homeless pets a safe haven and help them find their forever home. Every year, they are for up to 25 homeless dogs and 50 cats, providing general health care, shelter and well being through a network of volunteers and resources. Visit https://www.willcountyhumane.com/ for more information.
The shelter is a private, 501(3)(c) not-for-profit that receives no federal or local government dollars to run our facility and care for pets.
Mallory Hewlett, Communications Manager at the Joliet Public Library, organized the Giving Tree.
“The Giving Tree season is my favorite time of year,” said Hewlett. “This donation drive allows our library community to come together to provide support for those in need, ensuring they feel love throughout the season of giving.”
Megan Millen, Executive Director at the Joliet Public Library says community involvement is one way the Library partners with different organizations in Joliet.
“We have worked with the Will County Humane Society to hold adoption events at our libraries,” said Millen. “These programs bring joy to our patrons and offer a new avenue for pets to find homes. At this time of year, we are reminded that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”
